![]() ![]() It was time for Kim and she prepared herself for her set like a boxer ready for the ring… There are a lot of hair whipping and body contortions with Kim, she is totally restless, looking green as a pea pod with the haggard stare of Frankenstein’s bride, and may be this what she meant when she named her band The Created. They were enraged and girlie at the same time, rearranging chaos and bringing mess, trashing around but stains are always messy right? By the way, Allison can do the splits. It was catchy at times like a playful rhythmic dance with guitars becoming a weird Halloween soundtrack, giving birth to cacophony and insane jump reminding 70’s punk. The two front girls were bolder than ever, Allison jumped all over the place, and there was something a bit creepy in their music although they seemed to have a lot of fun too. They were all about dissonance, distortion and anarchy, with Allison Wolfe’s great bouncy energy and Mecca Vazie Andrews’s zombie-like character, while the guitar, drums and bass rhythmically stomped their crazy antics. I had seen them at Echo Park rising a few years ago, so I knew what to expect, but they still installed chaos in a few seconds, blood dripping from their mouths, as a Halloween avant-gout. Sex Stains were playing next and this is another interesting Google search, but I would not recommend it, although these two women, riot grrrls Allison Wolfe and Mecca Vazie Andrews, visibly have a great sense of humor. Their set was an explosive one – but I could use this adjective for all the bands which played that night – with furious guitar playing, some loud and warm pop-rock melodies with bold vocals, going into mad psychedelia with swirls of distortions and even a synth… they are so young and so new that I barely could find anything about them, and I wonder if their moniker has anything to do with Star Strek, because this is all that come out from a Google search. I immediately got a strong Ty Segall vibe, may be it was the blonde hair whipping the singer’s face and soon the whole place or the battles guitar versus amps, but yes this guy could have been Segall’s little brother. ![]() ![]() Mind Meld was opening the show, there are always many bands to discover during these residencies, and they were a good surprise. Kim the Created has a Monday residency at the Echo in October, and since I have seen the woman in action during one of these mini festivals, I thought she was impressive enough to check her out a second time last Monday night, and I was so right. ![]()
